Wedding DJ - Nicky wood

I have had the privilege of Dejaying for many happy couples over the years. These are just a few that I have been involved with since my time in Ithaca.

My fiance, Nathan, and I had a 100 person wedding at Taughannock Falls in August 2008 and had our reception at the Farmer's Market. We had a lot of excellent vendors, but Nicky Wood was hands down the best DJ either of us have ever experienced at a wedding. Of course, we enjoyed our own wedding and we could be biased, but we're in our 30s, so are our friends, we've all been to a ton of weddings, and everyone, with musical tastes that range widely (some friends in college radio, jazz composer dad, aunts and uncles in bands, friends with mainstream tastes, some latin folks), they all thought he was fantastic. We still get comments. People truly could not stop dancing - not wild, cheesy and out of control - just solid, and good and fun for a long time.

On top of his excellent DJing, he was really great to work with. We had a lot of requests. Nathan's family lives in Mexico, and we wanted that represented. Nathan is a fan of hip-hop, we wanted that represented. I wanted our parents and grandparents to enjoy the music and actually dance. He called us 6 months prior to get us thinking, he called again several weeks before to touch base and discuss types of musical genres. Starting two weeks before (up until very shortly before - unfortunately that's how WE operate) we gave him a lot of material including some pretty obscure stuff. He must have worked really hard to fashion it into a coherent playlist and transition smoothly, but it was truly artful. He used a lot of what we gave him, and definitely fleshed out, enhanced and polished from his own repertoire.

He has a British accent, and did interject some witty and well placed remarks toward the end, he's a chill guy, he's smart and funny - he's great - certainly not cheesy at all.

I really can't say enough about Nicky - he is a rare type that you meet who truly has a gift for what he does.

I got *so* many compliments about the great music and DJ for our wedding. Vince and I can't thank you enough for helping us really pull this together (esp when I didn't get to meet up with you before walking down the aisle!!) and making the wedding such a great success!! We both can't believe its over and though we thought that we'd be relieved to have the wedding over, we're actually really, really sad that it went by so quickly! You were so great that my dad even voluntarily got on the dance floor by the end and I saw him dancing quite happily. :) You rock!!

You did a totally awesome job at our wedding this summer , July 21st , It could not have been better. Everyone had such a great time and commented on how wonderful your choice of music was & mixing skills too. We all danced and partied right up until the end of the night , it was such a shame that it had to finish.

An extra special thanks for the way that you handled the organising of your part of the day too , it could have been difficult with us in California & you in New York , but you made it so easy and so much fun. Your attitude is excellent!

Dear Nicky,
When I started planning my wedding, I knew one thing, I did not want to have your typical cheesy wedding DJ. I wanted to have real music that real people dance to, not just the same assortment of songs you seem to hear at every wedding. I'm a firm believer that the music at a wedding can really make or break the night. I know a lot of people get a DJ and then hand him/her a list of fifty songs they want to hear. What good does that do? You might as well hook your own iPod up to a stereo system. If you're hiring someone, you want not only their ability to put the music on but also the expertise on what to put on and when to do it--Nicky has that and then some. I wanted someone who could look at my husband's and my taste in music (which isn't really very danceable) and find songs that would match our style, and Nicky did just that. Our wedding night was amazing. I can't tell you how many people told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to. I really think a lot of that had to do with having Nicky Wood as our DJ. He started with an assortment and quickly read what the crowd was receiving the best. After dinner, nearly everyone was on the dance floor for the rest of the night. It was a blast.

When we first started planning our wedding, we knew exactly what we didn't want in a DJ - games, props, group dances, etc. We were so relieved and excited once we met with you and realized you didn't want these things either!

Giving you an extensive do-not-play list and a short list of what we did want to hear, you did a perfect job - songs we forgot to put on our play list and songs we never would have thought of but that were perfect for our party The dance floor was full all night, which is how I had always imagined my wedding. So many of our guests commented that our wedding didn't feel like a wedding, but more like a big party, and that was exactly what we were going for.

We cannot thank you enough! We are firm believers that the DJ can make or break the wedding, and ours was a huge success! People are stil! l raving about you, your music choices, and your accent. Thank you again and again!!

When Chris & Melissa first started brain storming wedding ideas, the first thing they were adament about was having you as their DJ. Having a band wasn’t even considered, they would settle for no one but 'Nicky Wood'. You were the first person they booked!
After Saturday night, I can understand why…. you had family & Cornell friends having a great time dancing & celebrating. I don’t think Melissa missed a dance and didn’t stop dancing until the music stopped. The music never took a break-no silly talking, just fun music to dance too for all ages. When we first started looking for a DJ for our reception we were very worried about what we would find (especially since we were looking from Seattle). Most receptions we had been to had given us examples of what we "didn't want" (tacky outfits, hoola-hoops, cheese-ball music) but we had a very particular idea of what we did want. When we found DJ Nicky Wood we were immediately impressed by his response to our email (and our various requests, we wanted 70's and 80's music and were extremely particular about what kind of vibe we wanted) and we hired him on the spot. It was hands down the right decision; Nicky was truly perfect. He kept the party going with the music we wanted and had the skill to find the right music at the right time to keep the party going. The caterers had to kick us out at midnight and NO ONE wanted to leave. We highly recommend him - he is world class and absolutely made our evening perfect beyond our imagination.

Nicky, from the first song til the last, Nicky Wood had the crowd at our daughter's wedding dancing - so much so that we overflowed the dance floor! Thank goodness we booked him for longer than originally planned. I didn't think we'd last on our feet so long, but the time flew. The music during the cocktail reception was great too. Just right to create a mood, but to stay in the background so folks could talk. We will surely hope that Nicky is available for any future events.

As you well know, hiring a DJ for our wedding reception was something that we approached with a lot of trepidation. Initially, we avoided looking at DJs altogether because of our prior experiences at weddings where the DJ'd music ended up being cheesy and impersonal.
As soon as we talked to you, though, we knew it was meant to be. You put us right at ease with your kind and lighthearted manner, and you took the time to really get to know us - who we were as people, what our tastes in music were, and even the ethnic backgrounds of our families. You worked OVERTIME to get in our unique requests for impossible-to-find songs, nontraditional bouquet and garter tosses, and a spot for a bellydance performance. You made it your personal mission to create a unique musical atmosphere that everyone would enjoy.
As for the reception itself? I think the best quote came from a nine-year-old guest, who exclaimed, "I wish it would never end!" That sentiment has been echoed by many of our guests ever since. You have a talent for feeling out the right music for the moment, and the experience to make everything perfectly seamless. The party was absolute magic, and we owe it all to you. Thank you.

TOP PHOTOGRAPHERS LUKE WALKER & ROBERT KAUSSNER meet NICKY WOOD at THE HAUNT!

This is the first time (but certainly not the last) Nicky has graced the blog, so for those of you who don't know... DJ Nicky Wood here in Ithaca is the best DJ in CNY. Nicky is a friend of mine, so myself and Robert Kaussner decided to go out last night and watch him tear the roof off THE HAUNT. In addition to Nicky being a friend, we also get to work together at weddings so it's always good to stay in touch and see each other (which we don't do enough of, so hopefully this starts a change in that!).

I know past couples have used Nicky and there are couples reading this for 06 who are using Nicky, If you aren't using Nicky and haven't booked anyone yet...... well you know who I like ;)
